It’s E3 2015. We rented a small meeting room alongside other companies,and ended up just playing SpeedRunners with journalists for hours onend. Occasionally me & Mike would get frustrated at each other and start genuine feuds. This results in lots of screaming. And our neighbors at the meeting room area (hi Zynga!) complaining.

 

After working on SpeedRunners for years, it still brings out the worst in me. You should try it.

SpeedRunners, the uber-popular platform-racing game from tinyBuild and DoubleDutch Games, just went free on Steam as part of a Steam free weekend promotion, meaning you can now go nuts on the game for the next 72 hours for zero pounds/dollars/euros/magic beans.

 

Now here’s the thing: Since SpeedRunners launched on Steam Early Access in 2013, the game has changed significantly. Even just in the last four months, all these things have happened:

 

• WE ADDED TONS OF NEW CHARACTERS
• We added a bunch of new maps
• THERE WERE BIG CHANGES MADE TO PREVIOUS MAPS
• Alley is now called Metro, and it doesn’t look like shit anymore!
• WE MADE BIG CHANGES TO HOW WEAPONS WORK
• There’s a whole levelling system with XP progression in there now
• THERE’S AN AUTOKICK FOR AFK PLAYERS
• There’s a replay system that allows you to record/upload your runs
• THERE ARE HANDICAPPED CHARACTERS TO SLOW THE PRO PLAYERS DOWN
• There’s a new soundtrack, finally!
• THERE ARE WEEKLY KING OF SPEED TOURNAMENTS
• A shitload of other stuff but we’re getting bored of this list now

What we’re trying to say is, if you’ve played SpeedRunners before but haven’t been back to it in a while, you really should — it feels like a brand new game now.
