On May 30th, we went to Milan for a special event about LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2. The new title by TTGames will launch on 17th November for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, and on holiday 2017 on Nintendo Switch. We had a little interview with Matt Ellison, TTGames’ producer about the game and his development. You can read it below.
Is there a reason for Kang as the main villain for the game?
Kang is the villain, he is the main bad guy, he is a cool character, maybe he’s not that well-known, but he can travel through space and time. Obviously he is a bad guy, but he is also kind of noble, he fights for what he believes. Also, the way he builds chronopolis (the city where the game is set n.d.r) is perfect for us and for what we want. To have all these areas in one place is perfect for a game.
Should we expect other enemies on Kang’s side?
Yes, there will be other enemies, each one with his purpose. I can’t tell you more about the story, but there will be definitely other enemies on your way. Loads of heroes and villains into a lot of different places, because the story takes place in a lot of different locations.
In the first trailer, the main focus is on Rocket and Baby Groot running away from Kang in the Multiverse. Is it correct to say that they will be important for the story?
Yes, the Guardians of the Galaxy are important: it is where the story actually starts, but after that point other heroes will come in. You’ll see the guardians in one place but other heroes somewhere else: various Spider-Men, Doctor Strange, Avengers, just like in the first game.
Will Stan Lee come back?
Can’t tell you right now. Stay Tuned.
How many characters will there be in LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2? Only the ones from movies and comics or TV series as well?
We don’t have a total number yet, we’re still in development, but like you saw in the preview we’ve got a lot already. They’re basically from comic-books and movies. If a character has a LEGO version, he will be there. We’ve got Hulk from Thor Ragnarok, Miss Marvel that will be in a future movie and go on.
The game will release first on PS4, Xbox One and PC and later on Nintendo Switch. Will there be any special features for the last console?
The development on Nintendo Switch came afterwards, right now the game will be the same.
Can you tell us more about the time-based mechanic we saw in the preview demo?
Of course: that mechanic is the best way to battle with Kang, it’s perfect not only to create Chronopolis and the story but for solving puzzles themselves. Some characters are able to move some objects in time, so they can use this power to solve puzzles or defeat enemies.
In LEGO Marvel’s Avengers, last year, we didn’t have the chance to see and play some events from the Guardians of the Galaxy movie. Is there a possibility that some of those scenes will be included as an extra in LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2?
Sadly no. The Guardians of the Galaxy in LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 are the same that arrived in the post-credit scene of the first game, so the story will continue from that point.
Thank you for your time!
You’re welcome!
