In un intervista con Nikkei, Kimishima ha detto di non aver ricevuto istruzioni dal presidente precedente Satoru Iwata su come mandare avanti la compagnia. È stato eletto per un anno e non sa cosa accadrà in futuro. Si dice non contrario alla possibilità che in futuro Nintendo sia gestita da esterni. Ha anche confermato che non ci saranno cambi nei piani correnti per i progetti su smartphones ed i relativi IP. Il compito corrente è quello di creare nuovi affari.

In un’ altra intervista con Nikkei, Kimishima è stato descritto come pacato ed amichevole. Secondo Nikkei, Kimishima avrebbe predetto lo scarso successo di Wii U imputandolo all’ eccessiva somiglianza con il suo predecessore, la Wii. Nonostante la sua formazione affaristica, Kimishima ritiene sbagliato gestire una compagnia di videogiochi basandosi solo sui numeri. Nikkei accenna che Kimishima non fosse stata la prima scelta di Iwata, e che la compagnia cercava una persona più giovane. La scelta è stata dettata dalla fretta di eleggere un presidente prima del periodo festivo in cui Nintendo registra il 50% delle sue vendite. In accordo con questa circostanza, uno degli incarichi di Kimishima sarà quello di sviluppare una nuova struttura direttiva per Nintendo.
